HCG News
Optimizing human capital remains one of the most critical challenges for any business. While hiring top talent is key, productivity hinges on how well that talent is managed and supported. Gone are the days when HR was managed through spreadsheets—technological advances have ushered in a new era of digital HR.
Human Consulting Group (HCG) is Korea’s only total-service HR tech provider, offering everything from HR consulting to e-HR systems and payroll outsourcing. Its e-HR solutions—now the company’s main revenue stream—are available in two models based on company size and are also offered in SaaS subscription form. This allows clients to save on development costs and reduce implementation time, making HCG’s solutions highly sought-after.
Founded in 2001 by CEO Jae-Hyun Park—before “HR tech” was even a recognized term—HCG has built a 24-year legacy and a loyal customer base. Even as the company continues to grow, it has remained committed to R&D, and is now investing in AI to reshape the future of HR.
◆ From Consulting to Software: Seizing the K-HR Opportunity
Park’s journey began at a global consulting firm. After witnessing the challenges Korean businesses faced during the 1997 IMF crisis, he realized the need for localized HR systems. While companies were eager to adopt best practices from abroad, they often clashed with domestic realities.
“I believed companies seeking HR modernization needed both consulting to establish performance-based systems and e-HR platforms to execute them effectively,” said Park.
HCG started with consulting in 2001 and launched its e-HR division the following year. For the first decade, consulting was the main revenue driver. But the company successfully transitioned with the launch of hunel, an enterprise-grade e-HR solution, and JaDE, tailored for SMEs.
Today, hunel is Korea’s leading product in its category with nearly 700,000 users, competing head-to-head with global software brands.
Building on the success of its e-HR packages, HCG entered the SaaS market. In 2016, it launched a cloud-based continuous performance management solution, identifying latent demand even before SaaS was widely accepted in Korea.
“At the time, SaaS was already being adopted in the U.S. and Japan,” Park explained.
“We were ahead of the curve in Korea.”
In 2023, HCG officially launched talenx, its all-in-one HR SaaS platform, using its accumulated client base and product development expertise. Together with its 2018 payroll outsourcing service, HCG now offers an end-to-end HR ecosystem—consulting, software, maintenance, and outsourcing.
“Cross-selling across services has been key to revenue growth,” said Park.
“Clients appreciate the seamless experience—from system implementation to ongoing service.”
More than 90% of HCG’s solution clients also sign maintenance contracts, and most payroll outsourcing clients use or subscribe to HCG systems.
◆ R&D-Driven Innovation, With a Focus on Customer Success
Despite a surge of startups in HR tech, HCG’s success stands out. Its sustained growth is the result of deep foundations built over time—not short-term wins.
Central to its strategy is the philosophy of “customer success,” which goes beyond meeting expressed needs to anticipating problems before they arise.
“No other HR firm in Korea knows clients needs as well as we do,” Park said confidently.
“With our experience and client base, we’ve earned a reputation for real-world performance.”
The market has responded. In 2023, HCG reported ₩39.6 billion in revenue and ₩5.85 billion in net profit—confirming its top-tier status in the industry.
HCG also maintains a strong investment in R&D, allocating over 25% of its annual revenue to innovation. Even while self-funding its product development, the company posted a net margin of nearly 15% last year.
“We’ve seen firsthand how consistent upgrades and next-gen development drive revenue growth,” Park said.
With AI-powered HR solutions on the horizon, HCG is now preparing for its next chapter—not just in Korea, but on the global stage......(Further content omitted.)
